First Impressions

I’ll admit, I was pretty hesitant about heading to Patong. It’s the definition of tourist central, and in my experience, touristy beaches tend to mean one thing: bad cafés. Not just bad in terms of price—but also just plain bad food. At least this has always been my experience.

So, walking into Kan’s House, I had low expectations.

But to my surprise, this place actually broke that stereotype.

Was it a little more expensive than usual for Thailand? Sure.
Was it still good value considering the view and quality? 100%.

The Vibe

This spot sits right on the edge of Patong Beach—literally beachfront, with uninterrupted ocean views. The setting alone makes it a place to go, irrespective of the quality of food.

View from our table

The décor was clean and boho beachy, the toilets were actually decent (a rare find beachside), and the staff were friendly without being overbearing. No hollering from the front door. No trying to rope you in with laminated photo menus. Just a calm, chilled café that lets the setting do the talking.

What We Ordered

  • Shrimp and Avocado on Toast – 250 THB
  • Banana & Syrup Pancakes – 200 THB
  • Ice Mocha – 130 THB
  • Ice Americano – 140 THB

The Food

Let’s start with the pancakes.

They were your standard American-style fluffy pancakes. Sweet and comforting, but not particularly memorable. I think they needed maybe another 10 seconds in the pan to be just right. Nothing wrong with them—just not something I’d order again.

Pancake Rating: 5/10

Now, the shrimp and avocado toast was a pleasant surprise.

Big, juicy shrimp. Proper portions of avocado. A generous heap of scrambled eggs. I went in expecting rubbery eggs and chewy prawns, and we got the complete opposite. A solid plate of food—especially given the beachfront setting.

Avo & Shrimp Toast Rating: 6/10

Value & Experience

Sure, it’s pricier than your average Thai café—but for a beachfront meal in Patong, this felt like a bargain. You’re paying for the view, the comfort, and the clean boho vibe. And in that context, I thought the prices were more than fair.

There’s a quiet sophistication here that sets it apart from the usual beachside tourist traps. You’re not being bombarded by touts, and you’re not chewing through overpriced dry chicken sandwiches. It’s just… nice.

Would I go again? Definitely—for a relaxed beachside lunch or brunch, especially if I was already in the area.

If I lived in Phuket, this would probably be a regular weekend spot—maybe even more than that. I could totally see myself rolling in during work hours, setting up shop for a couple of hours with an iced coffee, picking at something tasty, and just soaking up the scenery while getting a bit of work done. It’s that kind of place—relaxed, comfortable, and easy to settle into.

Breakdown

  • Pancakes: 5/10
  • Avocado & Shrimp Toast: 6/10
  • Value: 8/10 (for the location, totally fair)
  • Service: 8/10 (friendly, not overly attentive)

Final Thoughts

If you’re in Patong and want a dependable, comfortable café with great views and solid food, Kan’s House is a winner. No hard sell. Just a genuinely decent beachfront café with a friendly warm atmosphere.
