First Day, First Cafe—A Good Start
First full day in Phuket. We were tired, still adjusting, and not quite ready to deep dive into the heart of the city. So, instead of trekking far, we figured we’d start close, find a local coffee and breakfast spot, soak into the area, and ease into things.
I’m so glad we did.
Tangerine is a little gem, the kind of place with a young, hip, nomadic feel, full of people tapping away on laptops, sipping good coffees, and enjoying a slow morning. It’s got that effortlessly cool, boutique cafe energy without feeling too pretentious.
The Food – Simple, but Solid
The menu isn’t overly complicated, just good, well-executed food. I went for the pork sausage and eggs, while Ashleigh had the teriyaki spam with eggs and rice.
For drinks? I had a coffee with condensed milk and malt crumble, while Ashleigh went for a Nutella and peanut butter coffee (yes, that’s a thing).
My sausage and eggs? Delicious.
It tasted like they’d been cooked in maple syrup, which gave them this perfect sweet-salty balance. Honestly, I could eat this every morning. Portion size? Decent. Obviously, as a big boy, I like big boy portions, so I left a little hungry, but not unsatisfied.
Ashleigh’s teriyaki spam and rice? A comfort food classic. Salty, sweet, and everything you’d want from a simple breakfast bowl.
The Coffee – Absolutely to Die For
The food was good, but the coffee stole the show.
✅ My condensed milk & malt crumble coffee? 8/10. A daily drinker if it wasn’t for the inevitable caloric bomb lurking in every sip.
✅ Ashleigh’s Nutella & peanut butter coffee? Sweet, indulgent, and basically a dessert in a cup, the kind of thing you have to pretend isn’t 400 calories just to enjoy it.
Would I come back just for the coffee?
Honestly? Yes.
Is It Worth a Detour?
Here’s the thing, Tangerine is great, but it’s not a ‘must-visit’ cafe, unless you’re within walking distance.
🔹 Final Rating: 7/10 (4.5/5 stars)
Would I go out of my way to get here? No.
Would I happily make it a regular stop if I lived nearby? Absolutely.
The only downside? It’s closed on Wednesdays, which I found out the hard way, sitting here, writing this on a Wednesday, wishing I could go back. Instead, we ended up at Candelry—read more about that here.
The Price – Worth It?
At 550 THB (£12.89) for breakfast and coffee for two, it’s definitely on the pricier side, sitting firmly in the “Western-style café” category.
Not insanely expensive, but not something I’d do every single morning either. If I was living here long-term, I’d probably mix it up—maybe 2-3 times a week at Tangerine, and the other days I’d go for a local-style breakfast to keep costs down.
Bonus Points – The Shop
One thing that really stood out was the in-house boutique, fully stocked with high-quality beachwear, colorful shirts, and dresses. If I hadn’t already brought a suitcase full of summer shirts, I’d probably be tempted to grab a few more from here.
Ashleigh, on the other hand? She couldn’t resist.
She ended up getting a bright yellow dress, because once she tried it on, there was no way it was going back on the rack.
Final Thoughts – The Only Thing Missing?
No sambal!
Not that I expected it at a Western-style brunch spot, but you know me, everything is better with hot sauce. Maybe next time, I’ll bring my own.
Would I come back? Yes. Would I go out of my way for it? Probably not. But if you’re nearby and looking for good coffee, solid food, and a chill morning vibe, Tangerine is a great shout.
